🖥 REVOLUTION IN IT OR HOW THE FIRST SERVER APPEARED: Imagine... 1969, a laboratory in California. Scientists are manually connecting wires to a strange iron cabinet with flashing lights. Little do they know that this is the world's first server, and it is about to start a revolution. What was it like? The first IMP (Interface Message Processor) server was a modified Honeywell 516 computer that processed data for the ARPANET network, which became the prototype of the Internet: 🖥 Had 12KB of RAM; 🖥 Was the size of a fridge and weighed almost a ton; 🖥 Cost as much as a luxury apartment; 🖥 It was the starting point for the Internet and laid the foundation for modern data routing; 🖥 50 years later, one of the first IMPs sold at auction for $45,000. Why did it become a revolution? 1. It embodied the idea of "networking": Before 1969, computers were isolated machines, like islands without bridges. The Honeywell 516 (IMP) was the first to network them, becoming a living example of data transfer between devices. 2. Back to work. Some questions are simple, but others feel like a full-blown puzzle. I need to dig into logs, ask other teams, and double-check everything. And no matter what, I have to stay polite, even if the customer is frustrated. End of the shift. With some calm music in the background, I finish up the last tasks and make sure everything is ready for the next person. It’s important to leave things in good shape – my teammates deserve a smooth start too. Every request you send us isn’t just “another ticket” – it’s something a real person is working on. Sometimes, a short answer takes many checks behind the scenes. And that calm, kind reply? We are pleased to inform you that access to the previously unavailable locations, Sweden and Finland, has been successfully restored. Earlier, our team detected network issues affecting these locations due to a software update implemented by an upstream provider. Our company always maintains a backup routing plan to mitigate such situations. However, in this particular case, the upstream provider enabled uRPF without prior notice, causing external connectivity disruptions via IP Transit when traffic was switched to the backup route. Connectivity through PNI and IXP remained unaffected. Our team will continue working to enhance the network stability of these locations to prevent potential issues in the future.
